Sedation Options For Any Treatment

Oral Sedation

As a prescription medication that is taken orally, oral sedation can be taken an hour before treatment or upon arrival at our office. This option gives our patients more of a choice in their sedation dentistry services. Depending on the type and potency of the medication, our patients may feel anything from a moderate decrease in anxiety to feeling so relaxed they fall asleep in the chair! With this sedation dentistry option, it may be necessary for a friend or family member to provide transportation home.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is light sedation inhaled through a small mask worn over your nose. While this dental anesthesia medication is flowing, you’ll feel relaxed during your appointment, though you’ll remain conscious. Once your procedure is finished, we’ll let oxygen flow through your mask, helping to clear the dental anesthesia from your body. You’ll be able to drive yourself home after your appointment.

IV Sedation

Administered intravenously, this sedation dentistry option puts patients into a sleeplike state, though they will remain awake during their procedure. With amnesic effects, many patients who receive this dental anesthesia option may forget parts of their care or the entirety of their treatment. IV sedation is an ideal choice for patients with more severe anxiety and those needing more complex treatments. With some lasting effects, patients will need someone to drive them home after their visit.
